Another perfect day; blue skies and only a gentle breeze. If
hydro-electric power is your thing, then this is a great climb passing
two huge barrages and a museum dedicated to HEP! The ascent through the forest was tough, but well worth the effort. Rather annoyingly after passing le Riviere d'Allemont, the road dropped 200m before rising up another 12% section, seemingly to regain the lost altitude as quickly as possible. |

When you climb the Croix de Fer from the south, 2km from the summit you
have the option of the 300m dash to the Col du Glandon. The view is
magnificent, with the snow covered peak of Mont Blanc visible in the
distance. I was very glad of my new 27 ring for this ascent - why struggle in a 25 when you can struggle for longer in a 27! |

Here I am with Del (Addiscombe CC) at the pass of the Iron Cross.
Stunning views in the late summer sunshine were enjoyed with a plate of
chips and an ice-cold coca-cola. Next year I plan to be back to ride the loop on the northern side of the Glandon / Croix de Fer, including the Col du Mollard. |
