David Bryant quickest again and news of the London - Southend bike ride

In the Southend Wheelers Wednesday 10 miles time trial at Steeple, David Bryant posted the fastest time with 23mins, 30secs. Second place went to Mike Hennessy who finished in 25mins, 53secs and in third place and fastest lady was Jenny Patience, recording 26mins, 39secs.

Fastest junior was Tom Giggins, East Essex Tri Club and also a Southend Wheeler, recording a time of 29mins, 55secs. Arthur Knowler recorded a creditable 27mins, 24secs, riding his vintage pre 1982 Gillott bike in preparation for the Essex Roads CC Vintage 25 miles time trial on Sunday. In this event he finished in 1hr, 12mins, 23secs, to take first place, beating Ian Dimond from the promoting club by 45secs. Knowler also took second prize in the veterans age standard competition.

There was a good entry of Wheelers taking part in the London to Southend charity ride. This included five ladies, Beckie Pearl, Carol Cartwright, Jane Harris, Ann Streeter and complete novice, Sharon Livermore, who all successfully completed the course. The Sunday training and social rides took place as usual at Canewdon. However, there was a reduced turnout due to the number of members riding in the London/Southend.
