The Sunday social and training rides went ahead as usual at Canewdon. Wednesday saw the Wheelers once again at Steeple for the evening 10 miles time trial. On a blustery evening David Bryant returned the fastest time of 23mins, 43secs, followed by Arthur Knowler in second spot with 25mins and 8secs and Mike Hennessy was third in 26mins and 2secs. Jenny Patience was fastest lady in a time of 26mins, 32secs and Matt Kane was fastest junior with 30mins, 12secs. The wheelers were in action again on Thursday with four riders, Graham Pearl, Mark Elms, Mike Knott and Terry Butcher, competing in the Ford CC 4th category race at Dunton. In the windy conditions, no breaks from the main pack of riders were successful and the race ended in a mass sprint for the line. None of the Wheelers was able to take a podium spot and all except Butcher, finished unplaced in the main bunch. Butcher, still short of race fitness, finished one lap behind the rest. |
