Southend Wheelers Junior riders have started the cyclo cross season with some good results. In the first of the Maldon and District CC’s three race series near Rettendon, Ferghal Swanwick gained an excellent 1st place in the under 12’s race, while brother Niall finished in a creditable 3rd place in the under 14’s race ahead of Matt Kane in 4th place. In the senior race, Adrian Cartwright finished in 16 spot while Arthur Knowler had to retire with a broken chain. |

In the second event of the series on Tuesday evening, Ferghal Swanwick repeated his good performance of the previous week with another 1st place in the under 12’s race, while Niall Swanwick and Matt Kane finished in 5th and sixth places respectively in the under 14’s race. For the seniors, Adrian Cartwright finished in 31st place with Peter Swanwick 34th. On Sunday a number of the Wheelers members rode in the charity raising Southend Bikeathon. This reduced the numbers taking part in the training and social rides that took place as usual at Canewdon. |
