League of Veteran Racing Cyclicts

Southend Wheelers Veterans were in action on Sunday at the Hogg Hill racing circuit. In the League of Veteran Racing Cyclists event, Fred Little scored an excellent 3rd place overall and finished 1st in category ‘G’ for the over 70’s. He also took the prize for the intermediate sprint. Evergreen 80 years old and past international rider Roy Godbeer, finished a creditable 8th overall and took the top podium place in category ‘H’ for the over 75’s.

Another Wheelers veteran, Keith Dalton, competed in the Eastern Counties 25 miles time trial north of Chelmsford, that was a counting event for the Wheelers time trial Best all Rounder Championship. Dalton recorded a time of 1hr, 7mins 19secs for 21st place from a field of 41 competitors. Fastest rider on the day was Richard O’Rourke of the Flitch Crono club, who finished well ahead of the field with a superb time of 54mins, 50secs. 

There was also a good turnout on Sunday at Canewdon for the training and social rides.
