Matt Kane in action at Hogg Hill

Southend Wheelers held their 10 miles time trial on Wednesday out at Steeple. On a very cold evening Robin Bevan proved to be the fastest rider finishing with a time of 25mins, 6secs. Peter Humphreys took second spot in 27mins, 34secs with Arthur Knowler finished a close third in 27mina, 43secs. Fastest lady was Julie Kane in a time of 35mins, 47secs, while son Matt was fastest youth with 29mins exactly.

Matt Kane was again in action on Saturday competing at the Redbridge Racing Circuit at Hog Hill in the Essex Roads CC under16 youth race. He put in a strong performance to finish in 7th place behind Dan Shackles of Team i-Cycles. The race broke into two groups right from the start, with seven riders off the front and Matt left in the second group. Matt pulled away from this group and pushed on through the race on a strong solo ride, lapping back markers as the race progressed. One of the leading seven pulled up with three laps remaining, leaving Matt to claim a creditable 7th place. In spite of the cold and damp conditions on Sunday morning, there was a large turnout of over 40 riders at Canewdon for the usual training and social rides.
