Arthur Morris – July 1933 – July 2010 It is with great sadness that we have to report of the passing away of Arthur Morris. His twin brother Len, provided the following words. Arthur started his cycling career at Harold Hill Cycling Club in 1948. A founding member, he started racing and touring until national service in 1952, where he served 17 months in Korea. In 1958 eight members of the Harold Hill CC rode down to Lyde Airport in Kent, flew to France where they rode down to the south of France. Sunbathing on the beach at Nice and, traveling back home through the Alps. Following this he started racing seriously in events up to 120 miles with his twin brother Len and John Warren, winning team awards along the way. He was very proud of the fact that he rode in the Isle of Man International Road Race and won a medal. In 1960 the family moved to Southend from Dagenham and after a gap of 35 years he joined Southend Wheelers with his brother Len, competing in time trials on the E21 Steeple course. He also had several cycling trips abroad, trips to Majorca with Roy Godbeer and Roy Stark, to France to see the Tour de France with many other club members. Arthur was a very caring person, even his own doctor remarked about it. He would have been amazed at the number of people who attended his funeral, a testament to his character. He is sadly missed by all his family and friends. Len Morris |
