Three generations from one family Time Trialling

It must be a first for the Southend Wheelers, three generations from one family Eileen Bristow, daughter Denise Kemp and grand daughter Jordan Kemp have recently been competing in the club's 10 miles evening time trial league. Denise is leading in the ladies league, while 13 years old Jordan is neck and neck with club-mate and school friend Hannah Kane in the juvenile league. All three also figure in the senior league for all age groups together with Hannah's parents and older brother. Eileen and Denise recently teamed up on the tandem to set a new all ladies veterans club age record for ten miles, with their combined ages being 119 years.

On Sundays the trio are usually out around the Essex lanes on club runs, Denise with the fast training group, Jordan with dad, when not at work, together with ladies and other leisure riders, while Eileen can be seen piloting the tandem with husband Baz stoking on the back.

The Southend Wheelers is a great cycling club for family participation in many aspects of the sport, including Club Runs throughout the year, Road Racing on safe closed circuits and on the open road, Audax Randenee's, Off Road Mountain Bike events, Touring and Ad-Hoc cycling trips to see stages of the Tour de France and to ride up some of the mountain passes that the Tour traverses.

The club also operates the British Cycling Go-Ride scheme that teaches youngsters and adults new to cycling the basic skills and how to ride safely.

Many friendships are made in the Wheelers, often lasting a lifetime
