In recent years Southend Wheelers have run a number of Go-Ride sessions
around Southend and more recently in Priory Park. Sessions are run by
fully qualified coaches from Southend Wheelers and British Cycling and
focus on a number of bike handling skills. Go-Ride Dates for
November & December
Go-ride sessions for the remainder of 2011 are taking place on the
following Sundays
30th October
13th November
20th November
27th November
4th December
What does a session
involve?
Typical sessions involve a bike, clothing and helmet check, followed by
a warm up before proceeding with the coaching session. Coaching sessions
include braking, cornering, climbing, gearing along with a number of
basic and intermediate cycling techniques.
What do you need?
Preferably you need a MTB cycle in road worthy condition, air in both
tyres and two
working brakes. Cycling helmets are compulsory. You should wear clothing
suitable for the weather on the day and bring food and drink such as a
cereal bar or other light snack.
Please note-
i) The coaches are there to coach and cannot undertake bicycle
maintenance
ii) There are no changing facilities, toilets are available near the
cafe in the park
Winter Weather
Please note that sessions will proceed even if cold and wet so please
ensure that all participants are dressed accordingly and also have a
drink and something suitable to eat for the conditions. Cold weather
will use energy stores up quicker. Cereal bars, with complex
carbohydrates, are a good choice. Chocolate bars are not.
