We had the opportunity to experience a Tour of Britain start line on Friday 8th September, when the Tour of Britain started in Southend. We were given special permission for a club group to roll away from the start line on Western Esplanade, and ride for 10 minutes before pulling over to cheer the peloton through.  We were able to recreate the iconic 1924 photo of a club ride going under the Pier bridge so that future Wheelers can enjoy the image at our next  big birthday, thanks to BBC Look East.
