Welcome to Southend Wheelers in 2023
We hope that you can join us in celebrating our 100th birthday this year!
Southend Wheelers Cycling Club are one of the premier cycling clubs in Essex and the south-east of England.
We cater for all ages from 12+ and most aspects of the sport, offering everything from the enjoyment of leisure cycling to the thrills of road racing, track and time trialling, and for those who like to ride off-road we have Cyclo Cross, MTB and gravel opportunities.
We hold a full programme of activities from weekly Sunday club rides and monthly Saturday rides to a full racing calendar throughout the year, so why not come along and meet us and find out what we are all about.

Maybe you want to ride with friends?
Southend Wheelers offer weekly Sunday rides. Go with the colour group that suits your speed or skill, and enjoy a ride with friends finishing with a beverage and cake at our HQ.

Meet - Simon Gretton
I joined Southend Wheelers in February2023.
I have signed up to take part in Ride London 100 in May this year to raise money for the charity, Diabetes UK. However, I soon realised that I needed help and support to achieve it. After speaking to a few people, they all recommended joining Southend Wheelers and I am glad I have.
My favourite part is the Sunday morning group rides. What has surprised me, is how sociable riding can be, on and off the bike. With no experience riding a road bike or in a group, I have been impressed by how willing more experienced members have been in giving advice and being so approachable.
The club has helped me in several ways already but most being able to ride longer distances safely with the knowledge that, when necessary, I can seek help.
My cycling experience has been mainly limited to leisurely cycling on a mountain bike and the occasional long-distance ride, such as London to Southend ride. However due to personal reasons, I haven't managed that recently. So, it has almost been like going back to the start again.
My aim is to complete Ride London 100 and raise money for a charity that is close to my heart, Diabetes UK. Beyond that, I would like to take part with other Sportives or similar events and enjoy being member of the Club and their activities, in their centenary year. At my time of life, racing is a step too far!
