Southend Wheelers hosted a landmark day of racing on the East Hanningfield circuit on Sunday, with the Andrews Trophy and Florrie Newbery Classic attracting top riders from across the country. For the first time in the club’s history, both events were also broadcast live by Monument Cycling.
The morning began with 55 riders taking on the Andrews Trophy National B Road Race over 12 laps (117.4km). Early breakaway attempts were repeatedly shut down until lap eight, when a small group finally edged clear. With just over a lap remaining, four riders led the race and held their advantage to the finish. Matthew Webber (TAAP Kalas) powered up Pan Lane to take victory, ahead of Jack Crook (Moda RT) and Elliott Colyer (Aero CLCTV), with Robin Mould (Foran CT) in fourth.
The afternoon’s Florrie Newbery Classic National B Road Race — the opening round of the 2026 British Women’s Team Cup — delivered a fast, controlled race before culminating in a hard‑fought bunch sprint. Georgia Lancaster (Loughborough Lightning) surged through in the final metres to claim the win.
Two deserving champions, two new names on the trophies, and a milestone day for Southend Wheelers.
