Wheelers take their first win of the season

Southend Wheeler Dan Pugh took an outstanding win last weekend in the Velo Schills BMRC Crit at the Colchester Northern Gateway circuit.

A post-race interview revealed that Dan had ridden up to Colchester circuit, from Southend prior to the race, as part of his warm-up!

Dan broke away with three other riders from the start joined shortly after by a fourth rider Ian Hope (National Crit Champion for 45-49 yr age group), who had ridden to the event with him.

Soon after, the break had reduced back down to three riders and as the picked up the pace they went on to lap the bunch twice, before Dan took the win in a closely contested sprint to the line.

Meanwhile two of the Wheelers’ junior riders Tom Womack and Antoine Rouyer-Brown were competing, in the 3rd & 4th category East London Velo Winter Series 6, at Hog Hill (Redbridge Cycle Centre), where they finished in the bunch. A creditable performance for both riders in their longest event to date.
