Southend Wheelers promoted the Eastern Winter MTB series between the years of 1989-93. There were usually five venues per series across the winter months, with memorable venues at Gloucester Park, Basildon, Weald Park, Brentwood, Eastway Cycle circuit, Stratford (site of the Lee Valley Velopark) and the Arena Essex race circuit at Thurrock.
All the photos shown here are from 1991 taken at Arena Essex where a big entry raced over a mainly flat course including the tarmac oval where you would normally find the stock cars racing.
