Spotted – Santa(s) in Canewdon

Santa(s), Reindeer, Elves were all spotted in the Canewdon on Sunday morning competing in Southend Wheelers annual Christmas time trial, held over seven miles. Many of the riders got into the Christmas spirit by dressing up in Christmas attire and adorning their bikes with lights and tinsel.
The top three placings in both the men’s and women’s categories went to riders from East Essex Tri-Club. Fastest rider on the day was Ian George who completed the course in a time of 20:18 closely followed by Chris Senk 20:48, and third place going to Ben Brooks 21:00. Fastest Southend Wheeler and winner of the club’s Christmas TT Trophy was Ben Pennington, who finished in fourth place overall in a time of 21:48.
In the women’s event Jenny Harley (EETC) took first place finishing in a time of 21:54, with Charlotte Brooks (22:28) taking second place and Rachel Halamandres (23:43) taking third. Fastest women Wheeler was Carol Cartwright who completed the course in a respectable time of 25:04.
Rob Womack (Hand Cyclist – Essex Roads) finished in a time 33:08 and was also given the award for best fancy dress and had Christmas music playing as he made his way around the course.
