100 years of cycling on sea exhibition, moves to The Forum

If you missed the club exhibition at Cafe TwentyOne, then you now have another opportunity to see it at The Forum in the City centre, Elmer Square, Southend On Sea, SS1 1NS, where it will be on display for the month of June.

Southend City has a rich history of promoting cycling events along the seafront and Southend Wheelers have been there from the start, organising, volunteering, and participating at these prestigious events over the years.

So next time you’re in Southend, take some time out to read about the seafront Kermesse’s of 1964 and 1965; The longest stage of the 1961 Milk Race which took place on 5th June and after 153 miles finished in a dramatic sprint along Western Esplanade and was won by Allan Perkins (who recently attended the Centenary celebrations at Twenty One), or the 2009 Tour Series finale, which several former Wheeler riders took part in and more…
