Southend Wheelers hosted their prestigious open event, the Norman Wells 50-mile time trial, on Sunday morning (30/06/24).
With weather conditions cooler than previous mornings, the 38 riders had to battle two laps of the undulating E9 25-mile circuit. The course which started near Writtle winding through to Leaden Roding on the A1060, then onto the B184 towards Great Dunmow saw riders having to work hard in to a headwind and constant drizzle which had picked up for a short period during the morning, but knowing that a tail wind would assist them on to the return journey back to Writtle before repeating again for a second lap.
Mike Debney, Verulam CC emerged victorious finishing in a time of 1-52-57. Southend Wheelers own Jennie Pennington was the fastest woman, clocking in at 2-18-21.
