Women’s Festival of Cycling

10-17 June

Southend Wheelers are holding a week-long series of free women friendly cycling events* starting on Saturday 10 June, culminating in a 7-mile women friendly time trial (Sat 17 June).


All rides are for mixed abilities, with most including a coffee stop. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent or adult accompanying them, except on the time trial.


There’s something for everyone, so why not come along and join in.

10 June – 08:30

Meeting point: Chalkwell Shelter, SS0 8HW

The ride: A relaxed 25–30 miles ride along the seafront and Barling


11 June – 09:30

Meeting point: Canewdon village hall, SS4 3PG

The ride: A relaxed ride around the local roads, ideal for novice cyclists


12 June – 18:30

Meeting point: Chalkwell Park car park, SSO 8NL

The ride: A relaxed 15–20 miles ride along the seafront


13 June – 09:30

Meeting point: Rettendon village hall car park, CM3 8DP

The ride: A relaxed 15–20 miles ride around Hanningfield reservoir


13 June – 18:00

Meeting point: Rochford Square, SS4 1BW

The ride: A relaxed 15–20 miles ride around local roads


14 June – 10:00

Meeting point: Chalkwell Park car park, SSO 8NL

The ride: A relaxed 15–20 miles ride along the seafront and Barling


15 June – 10:00

Meeting point: Rochford Square, SS4 1BW

The ride: A relaxed 15–20 miles ride around local roads


15 June – 18:30 for MTB's and gravel bikes

Meeting point: Belfairs Woodland Centre, SS9 4LR

The ride: An off-road ride of a duration around 2hrs


17 June – 08:15 (event starts at 9am)

Meeting point: Shepherd and Dog public house, SS4 2DA

The event: A 7-mile time trial

Cost: £4.50 on the day

You must wear a helmet and have working front and rear lights for this event


We advise that you wear a helmet whilst on these rides, bring a drink with you and have a spare innertube.


*All events are free (except the time trial - £4.50), and specifically aimed at introducing women to cycling, male partners and sons are also welcomed to join in.
